Of All The People In All The World

From: russl.wordpress.com

(This post is yet another part of the filling-in-the-blanks exercise from my account of the last three months). I really am becoming a fan of Birmingham Art and Theatre group Stan’s Café. After seeing (and absolutely adoring) their The Cleansing Of Constance Brown in March, I have now (twice) seen and absolutely adored their Of All The People In All The World. It’s a simple one to describe, but not an easy one to convey the effectiveness of. Essentially, you’re looking at piles of rice. Each

Over three months of Out-And-About in one go: It’s the hugenormousive catch-up digest

Ye Gods. I haven’t told y’all about any of the out-and-about things I’ve been up to since mid-July. That’s over a quarter of a year ago. I couldn’t make my mind up how to go about it, that was part of the problem. Another catch-up post (in which I briefly mention what I’ve done, so that it’s documented and thus actually happened) seemed like the obvious thing to do, but there have been a few things over the last couple of months that seemed to need a full post on their own. From the office and the A.E.Harris factory; from vintage clothes stores, actors homes and hardware shops; from the costume hire facility and fire extinguisher workshop, everything is finally gathered, in a trailer, in the Paul Mathew store, in Long Marston ready for the long haul to Bucharest. “Moving Entertainment Throughout Europe”. james

The Rice Show: all the world in Birmingham

From: inversionlayer.wordpress.com

From the 12th September 2008 to the 5th October 2008 Birmingham played host to everyone in the world. In a disused part of the AE Harris factory (1) in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter the Stan’s Cafe arts group, in a return to their home city, set up and ran the exhibition/performance Of All the People in All the World. The concept is simple: each individual is represented by a single grain of rice, arranged into patterns and piles to illustrate a range of historical and contemporary population

Russ L’s ‘Lots Of Things To See And Do In The West Midlands’ for the month picks out the best music, theatre and fighting events around, so you dont’ have to. A lot of Book Festival picks, and a plug for “Of All The People In All The World” which Russ reviews as: “acclaimed by many (including me) to be The Actual Best Thing Ever.” [link]

If you haven’t seen the Stan’s Cafe show All the People in All the World then you are missing a great event. Its made of piles of rice and you would not believe the interesting facts and figures that are in the show - its informative, funny, and sad. They give you a grain of rice at the start so here’s “me” back in the office working on my laptop. Its on until October 5th in the Jewellery Quarter see: http://www.thericeshow.com/ Brian Homer

Why did I enjoy last night’s bloggers’ meet (ask me about the apostrophe) more than any other? It was partly because we did more than sit in a pub, partly because we did sit in pub and partly because new people came. However I think it was principally because the bloggers meetings are increasingly ripe with opportunity and optimism. Jo Geary talked to the folk in the early part of the evening about Friday’s Birmingham Social Media Cafe, (time and venue here). For those who are new to the ide
